Novelty Cutlery Postcard help needed...

[Baseball Rarities]

I am doing some research on PC 805 Novelty Cutlery Postcards and I need to find additional images of postally used cards. If anyone has any images of these postcards with a clear postmark on the back, please either post here or contact me directly.

I have a Mathewson that should have a postmark. I'll dig it out this weekend & take a look. I'll post scans if it has a clear postmark.

Hi Kevin,

The only NC I have with a postmark is this Bridwell, while my others are unused. The postmark date for Bridwell is light but it appears to be May 13, 1912. If you zoom in you'll see the 1912 fairly clearly. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I have always thought that the set was first issued in 1909 or 1910 and not in 1907 as some suggest.

I have only seen a handful of cards with postmarks, and none have been dated earlier than 1910.

Has anyone ever heard or seen of a card with a pre 1910 postmark, let alone a 1907?

I believe I have seen an earlier postmark, but I'm still looking for that info. I have 22 Novelty Cutlery postcards, but only one with a postmark.

I think you can possibly rule out 1907 since the cards have a divided back. The change from undivided (address only) back to divided (allowing for a message) back occured sometime in very late 1907 as I recall.

I have down in my notes that divided backs on postcards began showing up in March of 1907. Not sure where I got this information - probably from a Postcard book or website.

Paul, that is quite a collection. It is interesting that only one of your 22 has a postmark. Most of the examples that I see are not stamped. I personally think that these postcards were so attractive and popular that they were primarily bought for personal keepsakes rather than as actual postcards.
