Very happy about adding all these in one lot at the last White Plains show. At some point I'll update my website to include all this stuff, but for the time being wanted to share here. I believe John Wagner was one of the pioneers of by-mail autograph seeking, along with, e.g., Jeff Morey. Nice little lot and, of course, the reason I nabbed it was it came with a signed T206 of Sno. At some point I'll probably pick up a signed 3x5 so I can complete the list of items referenced in the letter.

Super nice display item! Reminds me of the short letters I wrote to hundreds of players in the early 1970s. My brother and a friend sent 3x5 cards to them, and some sent back short notes or photos. I was able to get Snodgrass, Doyle, and Marquard while they were still alive. No one charged a fee in those days. Later through trades, I've collected 3x5's or cuts on about 75 different guys from the T206 set.

What an awesome letter! It really gives insight to his personality. Can you imagine having two daughters living on Pearl Harbor? How cool was it that he not only sent an extra picture but, he described the background.
Very nice collection. Thanks for sharing. |

Cool pickup and it helps explain who the Wagner was on this envelope I have. I thought by chance it might have been Honus.

Really cool. Anyone who has read the Glory of Their Times or listened to the recorded interviews is an instant Fred Snodgrass fan.

I generally dislike the idea of framing tobacco cards -- esp. signed ones. But this one really is screaming for some elaborate and professional framing display. I also don't really like the idea of putting it up on a wall in my "playroom," where some of my other baseball stuff is. Light is also a problem.... oh well. Probably just sit somewhere safely hidden out of the light....
