I am not sure what to make of this card. Does this auction seem ok to you guys? Take a look at his other cards as well. I can't pinpoint it but something looks wrong, but I may be totally off as well. Your thoughts...

Everything looks fine on all the auctions except the fact that the seller wasted however much money he gave to GAI to grade the Mello Mint.

I was just talking with another board member about this guys auctions earlier today. He hasn't sold anything on eBay in over a year and now shows up with Mantle/Mays rookies, Goudey Gehrig and Ruths, DiMaggio RC and some other stuff. The cards themselves look OK, but as a whole, there is a red flag showing for me.

I don't know for sure. He has only sold four things on ebay and has not made a transaction on the website in over a year. But his PSA certs check out and all the photos have the same background so I don't believe he snatched scans. I'd lean towards legit. Maybe he just needed some quick cash?

I see no real problem with the listings! Just one concern: the seller hasn't been active since March of 08.. I'd contact the seller for more info.

I think Matt has it about right.
The Wagner scan looks right, I'm satisfied from the scan that it is authentic. I'd rather see it in person... But the account activity and items being sold is a bit of a red flag. If you were to win you might want to do the deal by escrow... FW |

does a GAI slab LOWER the value fo a card? is it worth more raw???

Ok....these are probably great auction(s) and a great seller. I would be a bit cautious only because of the lack of recent activity and the high dollar amounts, simultaneously with each other. Again, probably a perfect seller but being a bit more cautious than without those signs might be prudent.

If one has doubts and is interested in one of his cards why not ask for his # and call him up. You can tell alot about a guy/gal with a little bit of ole' fashion conversation.
Just my two cents. Tony A. |

Hi Scott,
I just don't like GAI at all. But, to answer your question, yes I believe any card graded by GAI is worth less than the same card raw or the same card graded by SGC or PSA. Back to the initial question, I didn't give a good look at the seller's history and was just looking at the cards themselves. Hopefully, the auctions are OK. Some really nice cards there. Rob |

cards look legit. All his buying feedback are from good sellers. He only has 4 selling feedbacks and one of them is from a board member leidemer-this guys first name is George and he just sold most of a graded 206 set on ebay. Not sure how much George reads the board but we had a few emails when he was selling his 206 set.
Maybe Geotge will chime in and say if he remembers the deal the 2 of them had. March 08 is not that long ago. Seems like alot of $$ will be left on the table from not being a regular seller-too risky as a seller-might get a good deal as a buyer but personally I would leave this one pass.

It looks like the reserve has not been met on these cards yet. It seems to me that a scammer would not put reserves on his cards, maybe the seller is just testing the market with high reserves.

Way back when, when I first posted on the Full Count Board (predecessor to this one for you newcomers here), I learned the mantra, "buy the card, not the holder." As much as I respect Rob, I disagree on GAI. If the card looks nice I hope people stay away because it is in a GAI slab, maybe it will help my chances.

If you look at the seller's fairly long buying history, he regularly purchased from well known and reputable card dealers (Kit Young, Bill Henderson, Burbank). This is a good sign, as that's the kind of history you would expect from someone who gathered a nice collection of genuine cards. You can tell a lot about someone by his purchase history. You're going to have more confidence in someone's autograph collection when you find out he had a history of purchasing from dealers like Richard Simon, Mike Gutierrez and Lelands.

It may be that he had written off ebay as a selling platform (as I had) and finally broke down and started selling on Ebay again (as I have). I think I went about 6-7 months without selling anything on Ebay.

Rob- Oh I have cracked some GAI slabs and resubmitted to SGC, it's just that I believe there are a lot of nice cards floating around in GAI holders that are graded properly. Obviously there are some which are not, but that's my point, I don't disregard a card SIMPLY because of the holder.

There are nothing wrong with GAI cards except in the minds of those who don't like them personally. Frank

Frank,
I don't like them because they've screwed up doing their job as graders, promised to reimburse me and then didn't. Would you like them personally after that experience? Rob |

As of now there are no bids on the card. What does a PSA 3 go for?
