Default December Pickups!

Haven't seen anyone start this thread yet, so I'll go first! My final month of the year has gone off with a bang! Would love to hear your thoughts on any of these cards. The strips are phenomenal to me. I love the cuts. Living works of art. The Jackie and Hodges are big Brooklyn Dodger pickups for me. My team collection! (Gashouse too

Great cards, David! I have only two strip cards at the moment, a 1943 MP & Company Carl Hubbell, and this gem that I just picked up at the Chicago Sports Spectacular. Having previewed your forthcoming SABR essay, I daresay this card is almost too clean for the strip cards genre.

hasn't been obliterated by the winds of time yet... disqualified!!

But in all seriousness, w515 is one of if not the best strip card set in my opinion. there's some high comic book style art going on in there; the face and the background colors in this one are a perfect example. seriously sweet card.

I think that might be fading due to sunlight. The very top of the background is fairly close to the original orange color.

An unusual foray into pre-war for me, first Goudey pickups for my personal collection. Crazy to me that these are the same grade. Nothing about the backs explains it. Earnshaw looks like a 2.5 at best to me, Durham 4 or even 5. Any thoughts?

.. There were no half-grades at P S A for many many years . The grader had to give it a "2" or a "3". Count your blessings on that one.
Us veterans of the grading-is-god era out here , well , we've most of us have given up second-guessing the wide wide world of the older PSA 2, PSA 3, and PSA 4. The graders see things that we peasants do not see , and they have standards that tie their hands. Eye appeal versus that little number up in the corner can give us buyers out here a really good deal sometimes. On these two , ya done good , kid.

Enjoy.

Default Couple classics

These two have been on my list since Covid so I was pumped to snag my first tobacco cards last night. Maybe I overpaid for the Cobb but looks awesome. Now to wait for the mail…

Finally able to grab a T213-1 HOFer! Thanks Luke!

I’m technically down to just needing a BL460 HOFer to wrap up the HOFer backs line, but need to do some upgrading and moving some players around to not duplicate players in a few spots.

If anyone is looking to move a BL460 HOFer, let me know.

Enjoy the weekend!
Bob

Here's my first T206 pickup in a little while. I purchased this from Dean’s. Their website was easy to navigate, their price (on this particular card) was reasonable, and their shipping was quick. I’ve heard a lot of negativity regarding Dean’s before; however, my personal experience was enjoyable.

As for Dahlen, I had been searching for a copy for a while. It’s nice to check this off my list.

Default E210

It doesn't look great but it's an interesting HOF card for under $100 and fit in my E210 slot for now. Collecting on a budget. I think this is from Tim N and the BST, a few months before the National.

I traditionally don’t buy a ton of prewar, but when stuff that looks this good shows up at the LCS, it’s hard to resist.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I've wanted this card for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on one a little while back. Super happy to have it now.

This photo of Jerry Mehlisch was from my home town. He was born in a small town called Liberty township in Iowa.

Even folks that only collect Hall of Famers and superstars should consider picking up the 1933 Goudey Richards card, because you will likely end up staring at it more than you imagine you would, because of those converging lines that lead your eyes to the outfield grass and wall beyond. Be ready to stare plenty in your future Andy.
