R.i.P. Mr. Aaron

Hank Aaron passes Stan Musial for all-time record for extra base hits

August 18th 1973 Hank Aaron belted the 704th home run of his career and broke the Major League mark for most extra base hits, as the Atlanta Braves posted a 3‐1 victory over the Montreal Expos and young hurler Steve Rogers.
Aaron's first-pitch blast of Rogers' slider which was low and away marked the 1,378th extra-base hit of Henry's illustrious career and drew a vivid standing ovation from the 25,093 fans at Parc Jarry!
"I'm particularly proud of that home run because it sets a new all-time record for extra-base hits" said the 39-year old slugger. "You know getting that many extra-base hits means even more to me than 714 or 715 home runs. It is a tremendous achievement for me!"
That's what Aaron answered when he was pounded with repetitive questions about pressures connected with his zeroing in on Babe Ruth's all-time homer record of 714.
Hank Aaron records career extra base hit 1,378 surpassing St. Louis Cardinals great Stan Musial’s record. Aaron would go on to record 1,477 extra base hits. Only he and former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds have surpassed Musial’s total. However, Aaron still has the most extra bas hits as Bonds finished his career with 1,440.
