Default 1926 Spalding Sports Co of America - back variation

Posted By: Carl Lamendola

There actually three backs that I have seen - bio backs, blank backed, and ad back. I once went to
Alan Hager's house to by some of my Spalding football....The story goes that Robert Edwards had a large group in his auction. Unfortuantley, he didn't realize that they were all ad backs. Alan Hager bought every one or almost every one. He graded them in his ASA holders - they wouldn't sell good so he graded alot of them PSA.

Incidently, 10 + years ago I bought a group for an old-time collector who had a Red Grange mixed in with alot of the others from the set. Some were blank backed and some were bio back. I had to buy the whole group just to get the Grange- it had obviously been cut from some sort of promotional ? sheet - but it was legite. I had Mike Baker at GAI autenticate it. I have seen uncut sheets of the whole set (with no Grange obviously. I have heard rummor that there are a few other "promotional" Spalding that exist Gehrig?- does anyone out there own one???????
