Make sure it's a CCD scanner. The cheap ones are not, those are the scans you see with the cards out of focus (depth of field problem on cheap ones). You'll probably find a lot of recommendations for Epson V series if you search the forum. I have an Epson V600 connected to an iMac and it scans wonderfully, never had a problem.
