Perhaps "prototype" was the wrong word. Although I've never seen another example, I suppose others were likely made. Maybe it was a popular figural piece in its day. Not sure how many (if any) others have survived, but it's got to be a very small number.

The materials, style and construction of the statue are strikingly similar to the Muller Baseball Statues of 1868 (Pitcher and Striker). I do not know the artist, or how this piece was selected to be the subject of the Walter Camp Award. I haven't taken the time to do the research. But regardless, it's pretty amazing that this same figural is still in use to this day.
