For an easily completed set a nice full set is often more attractive for a seller because you can get rid of the whole thing, whereas if you break it you may be cleaned out of the nice cards and left with a bunch of unsellable ones. For a tough set there are enough people working the set to get some decent bidding going on the breakup.
