By my eye – and some dude in Florida thought the same thing years prior – the corners were natural, there was no excess chipping, the size was within tolerance, the edges weren't wavy, and the beveling was present.

Yes and no. Not really new as much as it is a lost art. Looking at the edges can show either the typical pulling and cutting of the paper, which pulls paper fibers out of the edges leaving microscopic voids, found with prewar cards. Or you see the precise cut with a solid edge and none of that fiber pull out. Those are the ones I am wary of. We did not cut cards that way in the 1900's.
