16-1 is a rare accomplishment indeed, but compared to Roy Face in 1959, it isn’t even close.
Roy never started a game, relieved in 57 games and won nearly 1/3 of them.
He pitched 93 innings pitched that year and posted an 18-1 record on a Pirate team that was 78-76. Understandably he had only 10 saves and in ten of his games he didn’t finish the game.
I suspect that the 1959 Pirates were tied in the late innings more than an other team in history.
Who has won the most games in 93 innings in a season if you exclude Face???
