In January of 1958, Jackie joined the board of directors of the NAACP. Shortly after, Medgar Evers invited Jackie to Jackson, Mississippi for what the NAACP called "Jackie Robinson Day."

This day in Jackie Robinson history -- February 16, 1958, in a Jackson masonic temple, he delivered a speech "Patience, Pride, and Progress." For more, see the link below.
