Peter_SpaethExcept for Negro League players where there was a historical disparity, I just don't understand the case for electing someone decades after they played if they didn't get in initially. There has been enough baseball history since at least the 60s such that the contemporaneous judgment should be allowed to stand. I cannot see electing for example Ron Santo who never even came close during his initial eligibility. Nor can I see electing Jim Rice after getting nixed however many times by people who saw him play. EDITED TO ADD As for Tim Raines, I don't care how Bill James can present his statistics, the value of his rookie cards speaks volumes as to the general perception of his greatness.
