Doerr is one of just five living players who played in the majors during the 1930's. Looking through them, I couldn't find anything near the connection you did but if you saw the Eddie Moore/Hank Greenberg thread started the other day, Moore played with the Spartanburg Spartans of the South Atlantic League in 1938 at the age of 39 and one of his teammates was Mike Palagyi who played for the 1939 Washington Senators and is currently the 13th oldest living former player at age 94
