OK - call me Debbie Downer, and I have no reason to think that David's cap is not authentic. I just wanted to point out that the McHale photo is available from LoC in Hi-res, and the white spot on the bill of the cap is just a photo blemish, and anyway it's not in the right place - it's much too close to the outer edge of the bill.
There is a strong tendency for folks to see what they want to see in photos. I think I've said that before.
At least we know that neither cap is made of straw.
