Very cool. I used to have a gold late '50s leather helmet with a dark navy stripe - Notre Dame was the last college to use leather helmets, and this was the exact 'pro' model they wore that year. Mine was almost certainly not a Notre Dame helmet, as I had no provenance that would indicate it was, but I sent pics to a major auction house and their authenticator was prepared to sell it as a genuine ND helmet
I thought, "these guys really don't know me"; however, I simply declined rather than call them out as I normally would.
Now I sincerely wish I had saved that helmet - it would have been beautiful in a case next to your football, and it cost me next to nothing.
