In the mid 1980's my dad got in touch with a guy selling a NM 1952 topps mantle (through SCD) and asked him a few details about the card.
The gent decided simply to put it in the mail - uninsured no less - for us to look at. Turned out that the card was more like Ex than NM -- but it was so cool to open up a package and see that card staring at ya. Esp. since I was in grade school at time
