Default In 1901, at age 31 and in ...

his FIRST year as player-manager (he led the A.L. in winning % with a 24-7 pitching record), Clark Calvin Griffith, the "Old Fox" who recognized the managerial potential of Bucky Harris and Joe Cronin, led the Chicago White Stockings to the A.L. Championship (there was no World Series until 1903).

This was the only championship for manager Griffith, although he did pilot the N.Y. Highlanders (Yankees) to 2nd place in 1904 & 1906 and the Senators to 2nd place in 1912 & 1913.
