you might find some helpful info on some of the paper/document restoration sites on the web. I don't have any links , but I know there are sites that go into great detail about what chemicals remove what types of substances from paper based on age and condition , etc. I remember starting to read someones pages about ink removal from vintage paper and it got really in depth , like a chemistry lecture almost.
