Andy-To my knowledge, no one in the Old Judge set, including managers and umpires, took part in the Civil War. The closest reference I know is that Deacon White claimed to have learned to play baseball from a soldier returning home from the war. Virtually everyone in the set, including managers and umpires, were born post 1850. The oldest person in the set is Harry Wright who was born in 1835. However, Wright was not a citizen. So, while virtually everyone in the set was alive during the war, and thus probably felt its effects, no one actually fought.
What I find that is interesting on a personal basis is that several of the players in the set were alive at the same time as me. I was born in 1950 and several of the players lived that long. I know that Dummy Hoy died in 1961. Wish I could have talked to a few of them.
