I bid on this as well, but was also concerned about condition--it is always hard when you see condition flaws and can't evaluate them in person. Do you think that Gardner was also the photographer, since their stamp was on the back of the Reynolds portrait?
And speaking of that solo portrait, I was surprised that it went for more than the team cabinet, even though it was in better condition. Reynolds wasn't a very significant player...
Just curious--on what 19th century cabinets has he outbid you recently?
