Default buyer beware

There have been some large ads in the last SCD's from Leny Van Gend selling autographed items at too good to be true prices- 1960 Fleer of Cobb for $475, 1949 Jackie Robinson for $375 and many many more. Needless to say I called hoping to fill in some great cards I needed. He sent me about 100 different scans. Most of the higher priced items seemed definitley not authentic, a few I wasn't sure of and and a few were real. With all the suspect ones I was very hesitant to get the ones I wasn't sure of. The old adage "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is", holds true here.
I am not accusing Leny of wrong doing. He might be a sincere long time collector as he says who got many items signed through the mail in the 1960's as I did, but somehwere along the line he got many questionable ones mixed in
