One concern about leaving "as is" is the damage the tape is causing to the card and the book, as well as the damage the acid in the card is causing to the book's endpaper. The book itself is not uncommon, and the card itself doesn't associate with the book since Johnson died in 1946 and the book was published in 1948. My preference would be to remove the card t and I've done this with a number of books where a cut signature or card has been added under these circumstances.
Whatever you decide, it's very cool.
