The Cameo Pepsin Gum pins did not come in the gum container but were given away as prizes by the Candy Store Vendor. The Packaging was called "Base Ball Pepsin Gum, 1 cent per foot". There is no way they gave away a celluloid pin which cost more than 1 cent to make for every package but it is my theory (like with other Whitehead and Hoag celluloid prizes from the era) that you probably got a pin for every 20 sticks or you could simply buy the pins with the advertising on the back straight up. Cool piece but it does not have anything to do with the pins. This is also why you can find the pins with a simple Whitehead and Hoag advertising back as well because they were sold or distributed in a couple of different ways as were other Cameo Pepsin/Whitehead premiums.
