That's exactly the case. Boil it down to 2 known examples of a particular pre-war card -- one beater that is original in all respects and one super minty but restored. Which one would you rather have? I suspect you'll get a lot that would take either, but I think there are a few more purists in vintage collecting that would prefer the beater, but I am biased in this case.
