I would find a way to make sure there was a card inside. Once proven a card was inside, I would take the unopened pack, securely put it into a little larger box and then put those boxes in my safety deposit box at the bank.

Later, if I needed the money (or my Niece or Nephews have inherited my colleciton) the intact cigarette box could be sold (and hopefully will be even MORE valuable since SO MANY PEOPLE just can't stand not knowing what is in a 100+ year-old unopened box).
