Default 1933 C.A. Briggs Co. (Sports) Ruth and timimg...

It's no secret I like to collect type cards. For several years the C.A. Briggs Co. Ruth card has eluded me. Another board member has had one for sale (not sure if he still does) for around 2k in fair condition, from what I remember. I never could quite get to that price on that card to make the deal. A year ago one came up in a Barry Sloate auction and I knew I had a shot at it. The only problem is that another board member felt the same way. He ended up winning our, hard fought, battle. I walked away without the card again. These things rarely come up for sale but I just figured I would wait for the next. Recently one came up on ebay. The seller and I corresponded and he said he had a $350 BIN on ebay but then changed it to a straight auction. Of course I made an offer that if he were to sell it before auction end I would like a shot at it. He said he would prefer to let it go and I was happy to have another shot at one. I guess timing is everything. This also shows how a very thinly traded series can have dramatic price swings. I guess I am glad I waited....Here is the Sloate auction, the ebay auction and my new card. Also, if anyone has any other C.A. Briggs sports cards I would love to see them....
