Default Player Families and Vintage Card Collectors

Really enjoyed the article in the Old Cardboard magazine about 19th century pitcher Gus Weyhing. In this hobby I find research can be very helpful to collectors, dealers or in this case a family member. I found out about 10 years ago my Dad was a distant cousin of Rocky Marciano‘s from a family book my brother was reading. I always would wonder why my uncle Sammy talked about the Heavyweight champ, but I was young and they never talked about the connection because he had died early in his life. The first fight I watched was Hagler (also from Brockton) and Sugar Ray and uncle Sammy said during the fight Rocky had an iron jaw and would always keep going forward. I think even my Dad was surprised about the unknown marriage that connected our families, but he said it made sense because most of my family was from Brockton and Weymouth, MA. History always has a connection to family, because family is “History”
