Any pre-war card is prone to altering.....In my opinion, which is not always the most popular, the higher the grade the more prone to alteration. Since T206's are probably the widest collected tobacco series I guess they would be more suspect....but to me that is based on the greater supply of them. Third party grading by a reputable grading company will catch the large majority of alterations.
Just my opinion too but if you collect grades 1-5, and have them graded by a good grading company, you are much less likely to have altered cards in your collection. Again, just my opinion.
