They appear to have been used here from the mid 1880's to the turn of the century - while I have seen foreign examples dating well into the 1930's utilizing strips. The "N29" banner is RARE and I imagine the known population to be under 5 - so not sure how much one is able to make assumptions. Most if not all of the tobacco banners meant to freehang had strips. A few of the banners were nestled into self-advertising frames - unsure if the strips were removed for the display or just never attached. The Indians banner comes to mind.........
