To me, this is the set which bridges the gap of the war years. As such it is historically significant.
Adding to that is a rudimentary design, which some view as quaint, coupled with Joe D. and Williams in the same set (I believe) provides one way of portraying their MVP competition during the year of baseball's last .400 season. That is, other than DoublePlay - which incorporates extraneous players.

However, I think it has been shown that one of the sets employ generic player representations. I forget which one.
