My first recolections is while collecting the 60 & 61 Fleer sets as a kid and reading about the old timers.
Also, Glenn Myatt who played in the bigs from 1920-1936 was a family friend and when we would go over to his house , He would tell stories of Tris Speaker, Cobb, Ruth and the Like.
