My favorite Dock Ellis story is the time in the 70's when for some reason or other he decided to bean every Cincinatti player he faced. He plunked the first three but Tony Perez managed to dodge four pitches for a walk. After the next pitch just missed Johnny Bench's head Danny Murtaugh removed Dock from the game. Sounds like the no-hit game may not have been the only time he was high on the mound.

The Reds perhaps remembered this when they bombarded Ellis in his only 1976 World Series start.
