howardThe "best of the best" of Jim Rice's era was Mike Scmidt, no contest. He was a star before and after Rice was (1974-1987 for Schmidt, 1975-1986 for Rice) and in between he was a better hitter, fielder and runner than Rice. Rice beats him only in batting average which is offset by Schmidt's higher on base average.
I do agree that Rice has a decent Hall of Fame case and that if there is any Rice enshrined it should be Jim and not Sam.
