I prefer a combination of both.  Graded and Raw.

There is more to a graded card than the number on the flip.  For me, the slab adds tremendous eye appeal, at least SGC slabs do, as well as long term protection. 

Raw cards have great appeal also and there is no substitute to holding these gems in your hands.
