But there is a truism about the Tigers that many locals know. Never count them out before the kids get out of school for the year.

Yeah it's kind of an old wives' tale, but it does often seem that they pick up after school lets out for the year (and, of course, it is getting warmer). Long tradition of slow starts in DTW. Not many 1984-like exceptions.
