I have an HP PSC 1610 all-in-one and the graded card scans look pretty crappy. I've noticed that to be the case with many similar models.
As your scans indicate, you can find all-in-ones that produce quality scans. I guess I would be careful, just as I would be careful of buying a scanner that costs less than $75-100.
