Perhaps a penalty for bidding after a certain time is the solution. After trying a scaled down version of this in his last auction. Steve is implementing this with Clean Sweep - after 1:30 there is an additional 5% BP and after 2:30 AM it's 10%.
Before he implemented it there was concern of "sniping" at 1:30 AM - I wonder how it shook out.
