MarkI think Rob would argue that his "Honest Auti-Bid" system alleviates the need to stay up late. I have seen this in print many times, from REA.
REA stresses that it is a "no worries" system and that your ceiling bid is only executed after another bid has been placed.
I know there are still lots of people who are uncomfortable with leaving "top bids" or ceiling bids (myself included). But I still think that the benefits, and ability to switch lots outweighs the lots closing individually. It is better for consignors, and keeping the auction open enables many from being shutout.
I know the opinions swing both ways on this, and I'm a West Coast person... would be interesting to see how it breaks down- East Coast vs. West!
