Like Leon said, relative to other 19th century issues they are not too tough. The thick cardstock probably also contributed to the survival of some in high grade. I agree that they are still one of the best values since in my opinion they are among the most attractive 19th century issues made. For that matter, I think they are one of the best looking baseball card sets, period.
