Default PSA to SGC Crossover Question

Posted By: Steve Murray

I hate to say it but I'm afraid PSA is better suited for 50's cards than SGC.

Everyone knows that I am a diehard SGC fan. Personallly I own only 2 PSA graded cards. Everything else is SGC.

Because of that I gave some though to having my 59T baseball set emtombed by SGC. Passing thought, but a thought, so I thought I'd give it a test. By the way my set is very, very nice. I have had a couple of HOFer's slabbed by SGC and boy the cards do look great in SGC holders.

So to continue, I had some freebies from SGC so I picked out a common, examined it every which way, perfect corners, perfect color, perfect centering, a 96 for sure! Packaged it up and sent it in. It came back an 88. What a jolt.

The moral of this story is that SGC is very good at what it does, i.e. grading vintage cards. I'll take their SGC 30 any day over a PSA 4. But if they are going to be so so tough on the later cards I'm just going to pass.

(There I've got that off my chest. Thanks for listening)
