For career numbers, it's not an either/or proposition, but a both/and. Both Bonds and Clemens were churning out big times numbers unusually late in their careers, which directly effects career stats like home runs, wins and strikeouts. If you could have added four or five extra productive years to Lefty Grove, Catfish Hunter, Wille McCovey, Ty Cobb or Jimmie Foxx, their career stats would have all ballooned as well.
