Beyond Yankees and Red Sox fans, many consider the national media's focus on the rivalry a detriment to baseball. It's not that the rivalry is not worthy of attention, but the sports networks focus on them at the expense of other teams ... then lament at playoff time that there is lack of interest in the teams they ignored all season.
