I don't want to speak for Jim, but it is frustrating to make the big bid and know you are going to be the underbidder. On certain cards it is futile to try and be the high bidder because the person you are bidding against doesn't care one bit about money. Basically at times you simply function as a shill for the seller even though there is no colluding going on.
