Default Stirling Sports Card Catalog

I recently acquired a copy of the Stirling Sports Card Catalog published in 1977. Apparently it was an attempt to update the 1960 ACC and to implement a new numbering system. Does anyone out there know more about this catalog and why it failed to accomplish its goal?
