Writer Bill James always had difficulties believing that hitters could actually "choke" or that guys like Joe Carter could actually hit better in the clutch. To some extent, I agree with him.
If a pitcher is throwing a 90 mph heater at you, you would think a hitter is simply concentrating on making contact, does he really have time to choke and worry about whether he's going to make the ESPN baseball highlights that night?
