I heard this past week that a lot of the logic behind the scheduling of the games was to squeeze stuff around NFL games. Everyone will complain about baseball games being on too late this or too early that but you could put a Lions/Cardinals game on at 2:00 AM and everyone would watch it with few complaints probably.
