Frank WakefieldDusty Rhodes had a pretty good WS in 1954...
Game 1, pinch hit HR in the bottom of the 10th off of HOFer Bob Lemon.
Game 2, game tying pinch hit single in 5th, HR in the 7th off of HOFer Early Wynn.
Game 3, pinch hit 2 run single in 3rd inning.
Game 4, celebrate championship...
Dusty was 4 for 6 with 7 RBIs, 2 HRs, and a walk. A pretty good 3 days, September 29th through October 1st. They could get those games played back in the good old days.
This photo was my grandfather's. He lived in a small rural town in the country, but he could see baseball in the big city of Hopkinsville, KY, a few miles away. Dusty played for the Hopkinsville Hoppers of the KITTY League before making the major leagues. I think Dusty was a representative for a distillery and would make calls on liquor stores in the off season. My grandfather got this from Dusty. The photo is a PMT that is the image used for Dusty's 1955 Topps card, card #1. A few years ago I had a photographer copy the photo, omitting the blue ink signature. I then sent a few prints to Mr. Rhodes, told him about how my grandfather... asked him to sign one of the new ones for me and for him to keep the rest. So I now have one signed for me, plus this one.
