What if A-Rod was the original NY Yankee, not Jeter. Would fans/media then give this guy a break?

Lets say Jeter came to NY mid-career, while A-Rod was the NY media darling.

Would the tables be turned ? Then A-Rod could do no wrong, and Jeter would be on the hot seat?
