I have never had success in the holder, but I have had success cracking and re-submitting. I would be afraid to crack your card for fear of damaging it as much as anything. If it were me, I would wait to do it at a show where you can talk to them and they have to actually show you why it is not an 8 rather than just anonymously mail it back to you as "min. grade". If it is as nice in person as it looks in the scan, I don't know how they couldn't put it in an 8 holder on review.
